One day, I was reorganizing my closet when I came across a tie-hanger like the one pictured at left, which can be purchased at Target. Looking at it, I realized I could re-purpose it to hang my utensils.
First, I removed the hook on top. It wasn't very difficult because there is a gap in the hook.

Next, I placed the hanger on the wall where I wanted it. I attached it to the wall with a screw. I thought I was done, but after a few days, I noticed that it didn't always stay level. To fix this, I added a small nail above the hanger near each end.
Now, when I need a utensil, it's right where I can grab it. Because my sink is a 1940s cast iron sink with washboards on each side, and my hanger is above one of those sides, when I wash the utensil, I simply hang it to dry. That was an added convenience.
